A market on the tracks, a market on the water

A full day southwest of Bangkok — watch vendors fold away their stalls as the train slides through Maeklong Railway Market, cruise the canals of a floating market where fruit and noodles are sold straight from the boats, then spend half a day among the mangroves with fishermen, seafood farms and monkeys, ending with a seafood lunch by the water.

Tour schedule

Maeklong Railway Market

The day starts at the famous Maeklong Railway Market, one of Thailand’s most extraordinary sights. Vendors set up their stalls right along the tracks and skilfully pull back their umbrellas and displays as the train passes just inches away — a fascinating glimpse into local life and daily rhythms.

Morning · Private transport

Floating market by boat

Continue toward Amphawa to explore one of the region’s floating markets. You can choose between the lively Damnoen Saduak, known for its colourful atmosphere, or — on weekends — the quieter and more authentic Tha Kha Floating Market. We cruise the canals by boat, passing vendors selling fresh fruit, snacks, handicrafts and traditional Thai products directly from their boats.

Late morning · Boat ride included

Mangroves, fishermen & monkeys

The journey then heads into the mangrove ecosystem for half a day of exploration. From the boat you’ll see the daily life of local fishermen — here, clams are harvested from a surfboard — visit a seafood farm, and get remarkably close to the playful monkeys that live among the mangroves.

Afternoon · Half day by boat

Seafood lunch & return

A delicious specialty seafood lunch is included along the way. Let us know about any allergies in advance and we will arrange an alternative meal for you. We then return to Bangkok after a day filled with authentic cultural encounters and unforgettable moments.

What you’ll see

Maeklong Railway Market

Stalls built directly on the rails, folded away and reopened in seconds every time a train passes through the middle of the market.

Train market

Floating market

Damnoen Saduak or Tha Kha depending on the day — canals crowded with wooden boats selling fruit, noodles and handicrafts.

By boat

Mangrove ecosystem

Fishermen harvesting clams from surfboards, a working seafood farm, and troops of monkeys living along the waterline.

Half day

Three completely different worlds in a single day, all reached by road and water.

Tha Kha Floating Market only opens at weekends · the exact market visited depends on the day of your tour.
our approach

More than a day trip

“Everything here happens on top of something else — a market on the railway, a market on the water, a farm inside the mangroves. None of it was designed for visitors; it simply works, and has done for generations. Our job is to bring you close enough to see how, and then get out of the way.”
