Two people, one love for authentic Thailand
We are Laura & Yak, founders of Banjai Trips. Laura has been living in Chiang Mai since 2022 and has worked in the tourism industry for several years.
Yak is from Surin and has lived in Chiang Mai for over 20 years. He is an artist who creates sculptures for temples and museums across the country.
Along the way we met remarkable local people and small rural businesses that struggle to be seen online or to compete with large tour operators. Banjai Trips exists to bring travellers and those communities together.

Thailand works all year round, but each season feels different. November to February is the cool, dry season and the easiest choice for a first trip. March to May is hotter, particularly in the centre and the north. June to October brings short tropical downpours, greener landscapes and far fewer travellers. The north and the southern islands also follow slightly different rhythms, so we adjust the route to the month you travel.
Our published itineraries start at 125 € per person for a two-day escape and reach around 1,550 € for twelve days crossing the country. The final figure depends on the length of the trip, the standard of accommodation, how much private transport you want and which activities you include. We build every quote from scratch around your budget and show you exactly what is and is not included, with no hidden extras. International flights are always quoted separately.
Because we live here. We know how long the roads really take, which guesthouses are worth it, when a temple is unbearably crowded and which family-run projects deserve your money. We also work directly with local providers, which means more of what you pay stays in the communities you visit.
Entry requirements depend on your nationality and change regularly. Many passports qualify for a visa exemption for short tourist stays; for longer trips you apply for a tourist visa before departure. Your passport should normally be valid for at least six months from the date of entry. Always check the current rules with the Thai consular authorities for your country before booking — we can point you to the right official source.
Yes. For families we slow the pace down, choose accommodation with family rooms, keep transfers shorter and build in activities children genuinely enjoy — cooking classes, ethical elephant sanctuaries, snorkelling, night markets. Tell us the ages and we will shape the route around them.
You write to us with your dates and what you have in mind. We reply with questions and then a proposed itinerary. You tell us what to change and we adjust it as many times as needed. Once everything fits, you confirm. During the trip you have us on WhatsApp, in your language, before, during and after.

When to travel to Thailand
A trip to Thailand is possible all year round, but each season offers a different experience. From November to February the cool season brings pleasant temperatures and very little rain, which makes it the classic choice for a first visit. From March to May the heat becomes more intense, especially in the centre and the north. From June to October the green season brings short tropical showers, lush landscapes and a much quieter atmosphere. Our local team will advise you on the best window for your particular route, whether you want to explore Bangkok, Chiang Mai, the southern islands or lesser-known regions.
Budget for a trip to Thailand
Thailand remains one of the best-value destinations in Asia for a tailor-made trip, with a strong balance between comfort, authenticity and service. Your budget depends mainly on the length of the stay, the standard of accommodation, internal transport, whether you travel with a private driver and the pace of the itinerary. A route with private transfers, boutique hotels, domestic flights and private experiences will not cost the same as a simpler, more independent trip. Our published itineraries range from 125 € for a short mountain escape to around 1,550 € for a full twelve-day journey, and every proposal is built around your own budget.
