Wat Tham Sua on the way

On the way to the national park we stop at Wat Tham Sua, the Tiger Cave Temple, rising above the rice fields of Kanchanaburi. A giant golden Buddha sits at the top of a long stairway, and from the terrace the whole valley opens up below — one of the best panoramic views in the province.

Erawan National Park

Arrive at Erawan National Park, in Kanchanaburi Province. The waterfall takes its name from Erawan, the mythological three-headed elephant, because the rock formations at the upper tier resemble the legendary creature. The falls are made up of seven levels, each with its own character, linked by trails that run through the jungle beside the water.

Turquoise pools & jungle trails

Follow the trails between tiers, past turquoise pools and refreshing cascades. At several spots you can swim among the fish in crystal-clear natural pools. The surrounding forest is full of wildlife — monkeys, butterflies and a wide variety of birds. The hike up to the highest level can be demanding, especially in humid weather, but the views and the quiet of the park make it well worth it.

Death Railway & return

Before heading back, we stop at the historic Death Railway, the World War II line built along the cliffs above the River Kwai. A place of dramatic history and equally dramatic scenery, where the wooden trestle clings to the rock face above the water. We then return, closing a day of jungle, waterfalls and memory.
