After periods of Burmese control in the 16th to 18th centuries, Chiang Mai rejoined the Siamese Kingdom in the late 1700s, preserving much of its cultural independence and identity.

Today, traces of these kingdoms remain in Chiang Mai’s temples, moats, and traditions, a living museum of Lanna culture that continues to inspire artists, monks, and travelers from around the world.
