Phuket is Thailand’s largest island and one of its most varied destinations, combining coastal landscapes, cultural heritage and ordinary local life. In the Andaman Sea, it is known for its sandy beaches, its offshore islands, its forested hills and the historic towns shaped by centuries of trade and migration.

Beyond the beaches, Phuket has a strong identity of its own. Phuket Old Town reflects Sino-Portuguese architecture and a history shaped by Chinese traders, tin mining and maritime routes. Temples, local markets and neighbourhood streets remain part of daily life for residents, a clear contrast with the resort areas.

Life here balances tourism with local routine. Fishing communities, family-run businesses and traditional food culture sit alongside modern infrastructure. Some areas are busy and developed; others stay quiet, residential and closely tied to the sea.
